Women as business partners

When agro-businesses take gender aspects into account, their productivity and efficiency will rise. And the company becomes more competitive. But how to do it, and where to start?

ICCO Cooperation and Fair & Sustainable have, commissioned by IDH – The Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH), developed a tool for gender inclusive development and assessment of project proposals. The guidelines are meant for companies that prepare proposals for the Fresh & Ingredient program of IDH.  The tool is based on evidence that enabling women equal access to inputs, services and land, improves yields. Female farmers often pay more attention than men to crop quality, and productivity increases as a result of increasing their access to technical training.

With the tool, ICCO Cooperation, Fair & Sustainable, and IDH encourage companies to seek an active dialogue with women and realize the full potential of women in the value chain.
