Jemal has experience in agri-finance, agricultural micro-insurance, MSME business development, youth entrepreneurship, training, and advisory services, and monitoring, learning and evaluation. Through more than 10 years work experience in financing smallholder farmers, he has acquired experience in: rural finance, tailoring finance to the needs of smallholder farmers, youth, and agri SMES, as well as providing technical assistance to Ethiopian microfinance in addressing the financial needs of women entrepreneurs. An example of engagement is a project implementing Market Systems Development in pastoral and agro-pastoral setups in Borena, Ethiopia; linking and facilitating farmers’ access to finance for sustainable irrigation farming, and for clean water for rural communities.

Jemal holds a Master’s degree in Regional Local Development from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, and Bachelor’s degree in Rural Development from Ambo University. Jemal is fluent in English and Amharic, and Native in Afan Oromoo.
